What is it?

Marijuana comes from the cannabis plant. CANNABINOIDS are what make the cannabis plant so unique and helpful for a variety of conditions.

The 2 most well known cannabinoids are THC and CBD.

THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid meaning it will give you a marijuana 'high'.

CBD is non-psychoactive (no euphoria).  Both have important medical benefits.

THC and CBD, along with a number of other cannabinoids and terpenes, work together to treat many physical and emotional conditions.

Do I need it?

In order to see if you qualify for Medical Marijuana, you have to have an eligible condition that is approved by the state of Florida.

There are several conditions that fall under this category.  You will find a list of a few of them at the top of this page.  Please have medical records, doctor visit notes or prescription bottles to support your condition.

How do I get it?

After you have met the criteria of the Medical MariJuana Florida guidelines, you  will make an appointment with Dr Nielsen to get certified.

The doctor will answer all your questions about Medical Marijuana, educate you on the various strains, talk to you about the role of the dispensaries and  help you understand dosing, specifically for your needs.

We will enter you into the Medical Marijuana Use Registry (MMUR) and Dr Nielsen will make product recommendations for you.

The application fee submitted to the State of Florida is $77. (annual fee)

Within 1-2 days you will receive an email saying you are certified.  You then can go to any dispensary in the state.

Your Medical Marijuana card will follow in the mail within usually 10-12 days after that.

State of Florida MMJ consent form

This is the state of Florida consent form. Once you have an appointment with Dr Nielsen please familiarize yourself with this document and we will have you sign off on it at your first office visit.

Common Medical Marijuana questions

Does the doctor give me a prescription?

No, doctors cannot give prescriptions for Medical Marijuana.  They give 'orders' or 'recommendations' to the 'Medical Marijuana Use Registry' which the dispensary you go to will have access to.

How long will the orders the doctor places with the Medical Marijuana Use Registry  (MMUR) last?

The orders the doctor places with the MMUR are good for 210 days or 7 months. Then you'll need to recertify with the doctor for another 7 months.

What are the costs?

Dr Nielsen's cost for the initial visit and Medical Marijuana orders for 7 months is  $225.

7 Months later there is a recertification cost (Dr visit and reorders for the next 7 months) $100.

Annual card renewal for the state is $77.00

What are 'strains' of cannabis?

Different strains of cannabis help with different symptoms.  The two most common strains are Sativa and Indica.

Sativa is commonly known to be more uplifting.

Indica is more commonly known to be sedative.

Dr. Nielsen will go over all of this thoroughly on your first meeting.

There are a number of different routes to taking Medical Marijuana:

"Medical cannabis is          revolutionizing the practice of medicine world wide"

Hello, I'm Doctor Craig Nielsen

As a  Board Certified Family Practitioner for over 50 years, I have seen how suffering and pain can destroy lives along with the mental anguish that often comes with long term illness like cancer,  parkinson's disease, ALS., MS and many other dis-eases of the body and mind.

Chronic pain management has alway been a priority with illness and unfortunately for years one of our options as medical professionals were opioids that ended up destroying many lives.

I've found that medical marijuana, used for a qualifying condition and under the care of a medical marijuana doctor, can have remarkable effects in alleviating many distressing symptoms.
